1. STRICTLY SINGLE-USE ONLY: These are "crush" washers. They are designed to permanently deform and conform to the shape of your oil pan upon tightening to create a perfect seal. NEVER reuse an old crush washer. Reusing them is the #1 cause of slow oil leaks after an oil change!
2. PROPER TORQUE REQUIRED: Always tighten the oil drain plug to the factory-recommended torque specification (typically around 28-30 ft-lbs for most Toyota/Lexus models). Over-tightening will not only flatten the washer too much but can permanently strip the threads in your aluminum oil pan.
3. CLEAN THE SURFACE: Before installing the new washer, ensure both the drain plug flange and the oil pan mating surface are completely wiped clean of grit, old gasket material, and debris.
